Breaking Barriers to Reproductive Health in Benue State

In many rural and low-income communities, especially within Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, access to modern contraceptives remains a distant dream. This gap fuels cycles of poverty, poor health outcomes, and entrenched gender inequality.

In Benue State, maternal and child mortality rates remain unacceptably high. At Daudu 1 IDP Camp in Guma LGA alone, 30–35 births are recorded monthly, yet family planning services are either unavailable or underutilized.

💡 That’s why HealthMedic Support Initiatives is proud to launch the Pilot Phase of its bold PET project:

“Project 5000 Women Initiative: Family Planning and Contraceptive Access for 5,000 Women Across IDP Camps in Benue State.”

Our goal is clear: Empower displaced women with the tools, knowledge, and autonomy to make informed reproductive health decisions.

🎯 In our pilot phase at Daudu 1 IDP Camp, we provided:
• Culturally sensitive family planning counseling
• Awareness campaigns tailored to community needs
• Free distribution of modern contraceptive implants
• Pregnancy tests, blood pressure & weight checks before administration

This initiative, implemented in partnership with the Benue State Ministry of Health, Epidemiology Unit, ensures alignment with state health priorities and long-term sustainability.

✅ Advance gender equality
✅ Align with the SDGs and Nigeria’s commitment to universal access to sexual and reproductive health
