HMSI Conducts Medical Outreach for Vulnerable Groups in IDP Camp
HealthMedic Support Initiatives recently carried out a targeted medical outreach program at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, focusing on some of the most vulnerable populations — pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under the age of five. The initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare services, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and address immediate medical needs in a marginalized community lacking adequate access to medical care.
The program initiated health education sessions to raise awareness about hygiene, breastfeeding, and preventive healthcare practices.
During the intervention, a total of 210 febrile IDPs (76 Pregnant women, 95 lactating mothers and 39 children aged 0-5 years), were tested using mRDTs. Of these, 22 women tested positive for malaria. This represents malaria prevalence of 10.4%.
Positive cases were treated and given preventive drugs, while those with negative results were administered vitamin supplementation.
